Lynn Chen's Guest Post: White on Rice
Tuesday, September 08, 2009

Lynn Chen, one of my favorite onscreen lovers, has a new film coming out! It features both Lynn and Los Angeles pal James Kyson Lee. Please check out their new film - WHITE ON RICE. Lynn's doing a GUEST POST! Also, FYI, she sings in the movie, so all you Lynn fans are gonna melt.

Hello Everyone!

Starting this weekend my movie “White on Rice” opens in limited release – it’s a comedy I acted in over two summers ago, had an amazing time making, and I couldn’t be happier with the finished product. The official site with trailer and complete info is at: www.whiteonricethemovie.com.

Getting an indie film into movie theaters these days is no easy feat and our success depends largely on our friends, families, and community being involved during opening weekend. If you or people you know live in one of the areas where “White on Rice” will play (see below), please support us by purchasing a ticket and encouraging others to as well!

If you’ve already seen the movie at a film fest or sneak preview (thank you!) I’d appreciate it if you would actively spread the word – every ticket helps our chances of expanding across the country. We don’t have a big budget for marketing so we rely heavily on word-of-mouth - chat us up at parties, email your friends, twitter, facebook, message boards, etc….

Here are the theaters we’re starting out in – for each one, we are booked for about one week, and will hopefully extend our stay if we do well at the box office.

SEPT 11th:
Los Angeles: Laemmle Sunset 5 (PRE-BUY your tickets NOW!)
8000 Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles, CA
(I’ll be at the Q&A’s Fri night 9/11: 7.45p and 10p screenings)

Orange County/Irvine, CA: Edwards Irvine Spectrum 21 & IMAX
65 Fortune Drive Irvine, CA
(I’ll be at the Q&A’s Sat night 9/12: late afternoon, early evening screenings)

SEPT 18th:
San Francisco, CA: Metreon 101 4th St San Francisco, CA

San Jose, CA: Camera 12 Cinemas 201 S 2nd St San Jose, CA

SEPT 25th:
Salt Lake City, UT: Century 16 Cinema 125 E 3300 Salt Lake City, UT

Provo, UT: Provo Towne Centre: Cinemark USA Inc 1200 Towne Centre Blvd Provo, UT

Berkeley, CA (Bay area expansion): UA Emery Bay Stadium 10 6330 Christie Ave Emeryville, CA

OCT 30th:
Honolulu, HI Regal Dole Cannery 18 735 B Iwilei Rd.
Honolulu, HI 96817

This entire time, we’ll continue to play at film festivals like Woodstock, Temecula Valley, Calgary, San Diego Asian American, Hawaii International and more TBA. Hopefully we will be coming to a city near you soon!

Thanks!!!
Xo
Lynn

All of you on the West Coast need to go see this movie so that I have some hope of it coming East!

You can follow them on Twitter @WORmovie. There is a Facebook page too. Get the word out. Independent films are what keeps going to the movies interesting!

Hi Michelle, I'm from Hong Kong and recently became one of your fans after watching Saving Face (4 times!) It's truly a shame that I didn't come across this movie earlier.

I've taken up your advice and seen White on Rice in San Fran last weekend when i was on a business trip there. Look forward to seeing more interesting projects from you and Lynn Chen. 加油!

I am becoming an addict after seeing Saving Face. I bought the DVD, and I was about to buy a poster but I feel like such a teenager so I decided against it.
I always wanted to learn Mandarin, unfortunately, I am Vietnamese but my nieces are half Chinese so they do speak Mandarin and it's the most adorable thing!
I am making all of my friends, the straight ones watch Saving Face bc turns out, all the gay ones have seen it. It's so funny and it's sooo true! Joan Chen reminds me of my mom..but Joan Chen is much more funnier. My mom is just brutal...and still is...
But then my friends said I am just like my mom. So scary...
