Since the world celebrated Easter whether they believed in bunnies laying eggs or not, I thought this would be as good of a day as any to announce that I'm actually reviving my limpity blog with my newly found vigor for the ongoing life of the modern day actor. Welcome - back - Krusiec.
So what's happening in my world? I'm currently adapting Made in Taiwan into a half hour sitcom which has been shaping up quite nicely. Yes, I said SITCOM, eat your food. I finally came to the realization that NO ONE was going to be able to write my point of view, so I had to get in the hot seat as it were and write the damn thing. Although, I don't sit when I write, I stand and take a lot of showers as it turns out. Something about the hot water on my skin...I digress. In conjunction with the TV pilot, I will most likely be bringing MIT out to the west coast later this year with a few college performances sprinkled here and there. The college scene makes a lot of sense since I wrote the piece when I was in college sleep deprived and eating ramen every night. So it kinda speaks to the college years of emotional numbness, drive, liberation and occasional pelvic gyrations. I just heard that Prince needs 2 hip replacements by the way. I guess these things sadly happen.
I just made a very fun debut on Community and thought the only problem was that there just wasn't enough of me.
So, I'll have to put the SECRET in my DVD player and follow the instructions for talking to the universe. But the real truth is that I actually liked my interview for the episode more than anything else (aside from my true love of Ken Jeong who makes me pee my pants) because it's so rare for me to actually see a press interview where I don't look like I'm answering questions from an encyclopedia. My dear friend Ollie Stone once told me when I auditioned for him to be a street girl that I was just "too smart." Too smart! I was so hurt. Anyhow, watch this interview because I'm actually having fun.
Now watch an old Saving Face interview and you'll see the great gulf between someone having fun and someone trying to get answers right. I should stress that the cast and crew of Community truly made that set an environment where you can go in and be funny. Being funny in a comedy is some difficult birdie turd. I often associate it with like, Dirty Harry holding a gun up my nostrils and grunting out, "Are ya feelin' funny punk?"
Ok. So this brings me to final point. The RED BALL. It's time to play.
I've been channeling a 21 year old Chilean Surfer in my dreams. Apparently, he's my animus. Look it up. He's like an embodiment of my masculine soul, errrr somethin' like that. You know you can tell a lot from your dreams, especially if you pay someone a rear-end-load of money. You could also read the book, Inner Work, and try and piece the messages of your subconscious together for a lot cheaper than a Jungian psychologist. Well, anyway, I was given a red ball in one of my dreams and I'm starting to see all the messages now. The interview on NBC for Community had me in a RED top. I just came back from a speaking engagement at a huge college conference where I was reminded of what it's like to be 21 again --- are you following me? Ollie Stone who I met when I was in COLLEGE said, I was too smart! PRINCE NEEDS NEW HIPS!
I'm being reborn like JC! Resurrected from the ashes and now I need to bounce them balls! Well, ok, what this means is that I'm gonna try and revivify this blog...stay tuned I've got stuff to say.

Made In Taiwan Update

I've been diligently working on MADE IN TAIWAN. People who've known me for a long time often ask me why have I worked on this show for so long. Well, I don't really have an answer for you. Mainly, I'm invited to do the show or its commissioned and I use it as a time to workshop the piece. Well, I'm finally at a place with the material where I feel like I can "show" the material and I'm no longer developing it. That's right. This means, it's a (fairly!) completed show in terms of the writing and in terms of the performance, well, that will always be an organic process like any other. It would be akin to asking me if I could play "WIL" in Saving Face the same way right now. The answer would be no. I don't think I'd play her the same way. She'd be different and in that special way, that film performance specifically captures my take on "WIL" during that period of my life as an actor. My approach to how I developed Made in Taiwan reminds me of making wine. You start out with smashing the grapes, I love Lucy style of course. And then...it just brews and at some point...you've got wine.
Made in Taiwan this time around will be a much more personal performance. It has been a labor of love to put it mildly. More like a labor of blood sweat and tears. I suppose when I wrote a story about my family, my first instinct was to make them as comedic as possible because I wanted the show to be entertaining. However years later as I continue to investigate the purpose of writing this piece and the re-learning of how do I tell this story as a performer, it continues to shed light on my abilities as an actor and now as a story-teller. I used to perform this piece with the ambition of playing all the characters as true as possible but this interpretation of the show will hopefully uncover a lot more details on the personal nature of sharing one's family. I think in some strange way, I would tell this story and I would hide in it. Now, I'm discovering the closer I get to the truth of it, the more difficult it is for me to tell. It is teaching me a lot about the nature of acting, performing, story-telling and why I have chosen this profession. Whenever I get bored with my work, I do my show. That's the simple truth. However, I'm learning now that the truth really is...whenever I get boring in my work, I do my show, and the show will "'splain" me why. I get general. I take it for granted and I've become generally not present. I think the answer I'm uncovering is really....I do the show because it's profoundly and deeply gratifying. Not the kind of gratification that comes from being seen or witnessed, although I'm sure on some performance level, that is gratifying, but because I understand the nature of what it truly means to dig deep within yourself for answers that you've been asking since you were still just a kid and didn't know any better. And as an adult you discover, but you did. You did know better. And the lessons you uncover will always be like a creative gift you gave yourself that you, for once, slowly took the time to unwrap, hold up to the light, appreciate, admire and finally...celebrate.

If you are on Facebook, there is a competition happening among non-profit organizations in a contest called CHASE COMMUNITY GIVING ON FACEBOOK.

Happy New Year!
A few quick updates....
CSI Miami episode airs on Jan. 18th on CBS. Watch it as you will get to see one of the young stars of Twilight 3 play my...gulp...son.
I'll be doing a bit of traveling to New York City to see the Windup Bird Chronicle which has been getting some lovely coverage in the New York Times (January 3, 2010 Arts and Culture) and others http://twi-ny.com/blog/2010/01/05/under-the-radar/ If you're wondering who the person is in those photos -- uh, that's me!!! I actually would like to cut my hair short like that...any thoughts? The reason why I'm a big fan of this project is because I was involved with earlier workshops but due to scheduling wasn't able to perform in this one, so I'm a bit disappointed; however, I'm happy to support my dear friend and director Stephen Earnhart. Next on the radar, I will be attending the premiere of Homewrecker at Sundance (TRAILER) and am looking to reunite with the Barnes' brothers who directed and produced this feature. I got a call from Dina Morishita of Dina and Welly Yang (check out that combo --Broadway singers and entertaining powerhouse) who said I need to do this film for a friend of hers because I JUST HAD TO. Well, she was right, several days later I was in Brooklyn shooting one really challenging climactic scene opposite one really cool actor Anslem Richardson (just after having taken a red-eye from LA to NYC). Todd and Brad -- you guys are super talented and I'm looking forward to seeing your careers unfold. I also have to add that it's such a sweet cherry on top when you get to work with nice, genuine people. Later this year, March I believe, the season finale episode of Nip Tuck in which I get to play out my fantasies as a Japanese porn star come into fruition. Just kidding...not really...yes, I'm really playing a porn star. I'm moving up in the world Mom and Dad. "Look at me, NO HANDS!" Actually, I had a blast and even though I've thought about not mentioning it -- it's Nip/Tuck and if you guys have been following my career -- I was reunited with Ryan Murphy who is the genius creator of Nip/Tuck as well as...POPULAR in which I recurred as EXQUISITE WOO. Youtube that one, suckas! Exquisite Woo was THE singly best named character I have ever played. And merrily we stroll along from Japanese porn star to stepmother into the world of ABC Family with Secrets of an American Teenager which premieres their new season. I worked with Molly Ringwald and had to really take a moment to absorb that since I had watched Molly growing up as a kid and it was surreal to see her there with her freckles and offbeat voice. And of course, we mustn't forget my fellow people of Asia. In April comes a nice little premiere of a film called Zoom Hunting in which the trailer would make it seem like there's a lot of naked women in it.... Well, I'll leave you with that thought. For my Taiwanese fans, I'm hoping to attend the premiere and say hello to my favorite hairstylist while in Taipei and eat beef noodle soup and hot pot.

Holiday Updates

Made in Taiwan had a successful run at Virginia Tech and I'm happy to report that we had sold out houses and I did a record 9 runs in 5 days! While it's tough to keep performing a show about your adolescence, I have to confess that each time I perform the piece, I'm constantly surprised and moved at how powerful the experience can be for me. I'm working on a long run here in Los Angeles and then another in New York City, maybe not in that order. However, the show is officially ready for production and can now exit workshop land.
Congrats to uh...me. If you're interested in producing the show....just give me a shout out!
On the features front, HOMEWRECKER got into Sundance and I'm proud and pleased to scream out WOOOOFREAKINHOO! Check out the NEXT category and find Homewrecker by producing/directing brothers Brad and Todd Barnes. I think I will have to go and play in Park City!
CONGRATS!!!!!!!!
On the television front, episodic appearances should air in January on Secret Life of the American Teen and a fun stint on CSI Miami.

Hello Everyone!
Starting this weekend my movie “White on Rice” opens in limited release – it’s a comedy I acted in over two summers ago, had an amazing time making, and I couldn’t be happier with the finished product. The official site with trailer and complete info is at: www.whiteonricethemovie.com.
Getting an indie film into movie theaters these days is no easy feat and our success depends largely on our friends, families, and community being involved during opening weekend. If you or people you know live in one of the areas where “White on Rice” will play (see below), please support us by purchasing a ticket and encouraging others to as well!
If you’ve already seen the movie at a film fest or sneak preview (thank you!) I’d appreciate it if you would actively spread the word – every ticket helps our chances of expanding across the country. Congratulations to NANKING for 3 Doc Emmy nominations!!! And if you

I make a guest appearance..... I actually had a total blast
shooting this because we shot in Bogota, Colombia! Outfest jurying
has been great! Some impressive contenders. Deliberation is this
Saturday night. Still have a slew of films to watch. Don Roos who
gave an inspiring speech on opening night will speak again on Saturday
July 18th at the DGA. I may pop my head in for some inspiration and a
lot of laughs as well. So witty --- those damn gay filmmakers. Also,
don't forget LODESTONE's KAROAKE fundraiser. See below. I'm
judging! Come join for a great cause. Starting rehearsals for Made
in Taiwan in the fall. I may do some shows in Los Angeles. Stella is
getting over her Korean ribs (which was remnants from a great Julia
cooked dinner - love u TZ). I know, I know, don't give the dog Korean
ribs, or just ribs. The bone may splinter and CHOKE THEM! What do
they do in the wild?

Outfest Opening Night Gala

Throngs of beautiful men (lots of men) and women artfully dressed in typical casual chic LA attire seemed particularly sharp at last night’s Outfest gala at the Orpheum theatre. I pulled my outfit from a boutique in Taipei while shooting Zoom Hunting. The earrings were a gift from designer Yumi Katsura and the shoes were vintage Versace. I didn’t crack the code on this one, but I’m a juror and not flaunting a movie. So, I played it safe, I wore skorts! I did put in hair gel, that’s enough daring when the hair is not short, not long. “It’s in transition.”
I’ve been to this festival before in some shape or form, but I’ve been invited this year to sit on the international jury, so I’m particularly focused. Although the opening film wasn’t on my jury list so I was there as a guest and I gleefully admired all the pretty boys and girls who came in my midst. Josh Brolin was there whom I worked with on Voices of a People, along with his lovely wife. I didn’t say hello, but…you know, thought about it. We brushed shoulders instead. Cristina Ricci wore a very cute ensemble, very smiley. I’ve worked with her a couple of times now….God, am I gonna be like six degrees of Kevin Bacon?
There was a wonderful feeling of community and celebration in the air, which undoubtedly was inspired by this festival. Thanks Kim Yutani for inviting me to participate! I’ve been to my share of film festivals and this one just has personality. I even felt a tear or two jam into my tear ducts when Don Roos was accepting his Achievement award. His speech was heartfelt, moving, and funny…. Don, you made me want to leap up with my arms overhead and say, “I’m proud to be gay! And I want my rights! And here’s an extraordinary movie I made in case I couldn’t make it any clearer!!!”
La Mission the opening film was entertaining and moving and perhaps….a little funnier than usual with this audience. There was an understanding in the interplay between film and audience that was palpable. It could also have been the fact that you could hear verbal responses all throughout the film that rivaled any African American audience. “That’s how my father found out,” etc. One of my favorite moments in watching this film had to do with a chocolate chip line that caused joyful amounts of uproarious laughter. I, on the other hand, like a lameo, could only lean over and ask, “what’s so funny?! What’s so funny?!” It’s very rare when a line is so funny, you can’t hear all the ensuing lines. I guess my mind just wasn’t deep in that gutter.
The reception for La Mission seemed very warm. I would rank it strong for performances and somewhere in the mediumly cooked range for technical merits. Meaning, if this were steak, it was cooked “fine,” I’ll eat steak that’s cooked medium, but honestly, I prefer steak a little juicier and a lot pinker in the center. However, it’s a story with a lot of different elements and not an easy film to direct. The drive was clearly the actors and being an actor myself, I appreciate actors’ films. Benjamin Bratt’s physical work was flawless and Erika Alexander found complexity in the simplest of moments.
The rest of the “official” evening was rounded out with music and drink at Club 740, a fabulous venue for all you Los Angelenos who turn into dance Queens when greeted by the sight of a sprawling dance floor. Here, you could transform into your luscious glorious dance selves and still manage to not punch someone in the head. Yes, that’s me, the one who dances and punches people in the head. Maybe I’ll even post a photo showing it. I paid tribute to the King of Pop when “Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough” graced the airwaves. You have to be dead to resist this hit. There were a couple of other nice electronic pop-ins in there. It never ceases to amaze me, if there is one thing I love about gay parties, the music is always perfectly cooked at medium rare. Juicy Red and Flavorful. Now it’s in the gutter.
I’m looking forward to the rest of Outfest. Come out.

Karaoke is all about the performance

After filming my first all mandarin picture, I have to say...I'm proud of myself! I made it! The director and producer of ZOOM HUNTING were both very generous with their time and support. I had a blast with the cast and karaoked at the end to celebrate. You know how all the singers (who can sing) pick love songs and ballads? Well, I'm the one who picks that song with the single chorus and a lot of sweet talking, not even rappin' -- Pussy Cat Dolls, Justin Timberlake, Britney seem to top my list. Karaoke is all about the performance, SLAVES!
LA is full of MJ fans today. Traffic is at a grinding halt and I've returned to a full end of summer swing. I'll be jurying OUTFEST's international competition this year. Opening night is Thursday so I'll be heading down to the glorious Orpheum theater for a little movie and red carpet dazzle. I think you can still buy tickets. I thought about doing a little Robert Palmer 80's fashion throwback. What do you guys think? In the meantime, I start another film called Take Me Home, and I begin prepping for a premiere of MADE IN TAIWAN in the fall at Virginia Tech for all you east coasters. July 19th, I will be celebrity judging a fundraiser for LODESTONE. Details below.

獵豔 "ZOOM HUNTING"

So, press has finally been released on the new Taiwanese project I am
working on which is called English translation "ZOOM HUNTING." The
chinese title is 獵豔
I'm very excited and begin shooting next week. I am working at the
moment in Los Angeles so I will join the cast next week!

I was stuck on set on Wednesday night for Laura Ling's vigil so I was unable to attend; however, I sent Lisa my deepest wishes. I think CNN covered the event and the turnout in Santa Monica was quite strong.
Among other news, I'm continuing my mandarin studies and squeezing in every little ounce of time while I'm still in Los Angeles. The season finale episode of Nip Tuck which I am currently working on will not even air until 2011. Talk about a long pregnancy period.
I look forward to shooting my first Taiwanese picture and am very very
excited about this project!!!

CANDLELIGHT VIGIL

If you live in Los Angeles or are interested in participating, please
come out next WEDNESDAY NIGHT FOR A CANDLELIGHT VIGIL.
Laura Ling and Euna Lee were detained in March by North Korea while
doing a story about North Korean immigrants in China. They will go on
trial next week. Laura is the sister of my friend Lisa Ling. With
tensions escalating due to the recent news of nuclear tests, the
situation is getting more precarious.
Candlelight vigils have taken place and more are planned in cities
around the country. The one in LA will be held in Santa Monica next
Wednesday, June 3 from 7 - 9 PM. The meeting place will be Wokcano,
1413 5th Street, Santa Monica, CA. Good friends Welly Yang and Dina
Morishita are organizing the event.
I plan to be there.

I'm thrilled to be a part of "Shuffle." Check out Theater Junkies and see what they are up to for an inspiring look at actors who are really putting their talents together. Made in Taiwan director Chris Stone is also acting and producing!
'Shuffle'' is the story of a man named Lovell Milo who, through no choice of his own, begins experiencing his life out of order . Through this detective odyssey he is catapulted back and forth across the spectrum of his life, where he discovers that the person he cares about most in the world - his childhood sweetheart and eventual wife - may be in grave danger. It's a ''Twilight Zone''-style premise told with a Frank Capra heart, a fast-paced blend of ''Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind'', ''Ordinary People'' and ''It's a Wonderful Life''. It's a love story. It's a mystery. It's the story of a life...told out of order.
“Shuffle” will star TJ Thyne (Fox’s hit show “Bones”) as Lovell Milo, and is being written, directed and scored by Kurt Kuenne (filmmaker of 2008’s highly acclaimed documentary “Dear Zachary: a letter to a son about his father”, released by MSNBC Films and Oscilloscope Laboratories). I had a great time shooting it although my lungs still hurt
from screaming.

Visiting Taiwan

Here's some info the mandarin school I have studied at in the past.
In fact, this is where I prepared my mandarin for Saving Face. It's
quite a good school. It's called TLI www.tli.com.tw
I've been pretty happy with my learning experience there and thought
I'd plug their school because I just found out that the TAIPEI LANGUAGE INSTITUTE has become the 74th official testing center of HSK, the Chinese Proficiency Test. So, now I can actually come to Taiwan and do my mandarin studies and also take this proficiency test. I'm working on my fluency so hopefully in my interviews in Asia, you will be able to understand me more clearly. Everyone in the states, especially us ABC (American Born Chinese) types, are always asking me where I studied my mandarin, so check them out. A lot of my friends are coming back to Asia for work so you might see all of us here!
Visit Taiwan, eat amazing Taiwanese delicacies for like two bucks and learn mandarin!!!! Of course, I can't forget all the other amazing places in Asia, but since I'm in Taipei at the moment, I'm loving my time here.

A Shout Out to UAE

I want to send a shout out to UNITED ARAB EMIRATES. I've been
receiving fan letters from there and since I've never visited...it was
lovely getting letters from you guys over there!!! I hope my travels

Enjoyed the Yelle concert last night

I went to the Yelle concert last night. It was one of the most
energized concerts I've been to in a LONG time. The audience was
incredible and the music was soooo -- irresistible. Yelle is french
pop with this kind of energy and bounce that is so delightful, she had
everyone in the audience making heart symbols with their hands during
one song. I have to admit, I couldn't believe people were making
heart symbols at a concert at the El Rey of all places. If you
haven't heard some YELLE. Buy it, download it...then kick everyone
out of the house and dance in the living room with some sunglasses.
The entire album flies by and is completely worth the humiliation of
being silly and indulgent. You will find yourself making a heart
symbol with your hands and smiling!
